I’m beginning to get concerned.
The Princess and the Frog Music Video

Hello All!!
I want to start by saying, New Orleans is the best place ever!! It is so fun and full of life and potential, I am so glad to have moved down here and out of the NYC trap!! (No offense to those of you who are still there, or moved there–I just have this need for, shall we say, blazing new trails!!) The apt is great- right on Frenchmen St, or as they call it,l the new Bourbon–no that does not mean that there are women flashing people for beads everywhere, it’s just the best place for live music and going out! It is also the nexus of the Halloween universe, which couldn’t have been more up my alley! I’ve made some new friends, and already walk down the street saying hi to many people, though that is just the norm here!
I also recently found a job! It also happens to be exactly what I was looking for. I work as an art deptartment Production Assistant for a new film called ‘The Hungry Rabbit Jumps’ (I didn’t make up the title, and realize how ridiculous it sounds). Let me qualify it by saying it is a Nicholas Cage movie, and a feature and shoots through February. To me it is steady work, a pay check (which I really needed, moving costs way more than I knew) and the art dept team is the best in the city!! They did ‘Benjamin Button’!! All I have to do now isĀ work hard and fly right–not the easiest thing to do in a town where people take of work early to go drinking! And I don’t mean early like 4 or 5, I mean early like 2:00, and sometimes 12:00. For those of you who may not be familiar with exactly what the Art Dept does, we make the movie look the way it should, sets, props, etc. I fell in love with it while working for Middlemarch on the Dolley Madison Project and could not have gotten a position like this without their help and support (thanks again guys!). The people are really great, and when we get the re-written script (it was originally written for Philadelphia) I will be working instead of typing to you all, though it is nice to have both time and internet (which we do not yet have in the house).
No, I have not developed an accent or a drawl, but it is often damn near impossible to understand what people are saying down here. I know they are speaking “English” and I hear sounds coming from their mouths, but what those sounds are supposed to mean, beats me! Not to mention I can’t pronounce half of the street names, Burgundy, like the color, is pronounced buur-GUN-dy. I still can’t say ‘tchoupitoulas’ without a giggle (I’ll let you attempt that one on your own). Not to mention they are more than a bit technologically challenged down here, it feels a little like living in the 1800′s. That and everyone has a serious case of Peter Pan syndrome.
I’m still working on my side projects, my Victorian Pirate novel series “The Adventures of Vin,” and Nana’s documentary, but it is sure good to be actually “working” again.
Hope you are all well!! I will be back in NYC for Thanksgiving week. Hey there Michigan, hope it ain’t too cold yet (it’s beautiful here :p)
My love,
Heather
PS- we have a dog, he was a stray, and we named him Jackson (for Germaine)

Now, please pardon my historical veracity, were this the 18th century there would be no lighter involved, obviously. However, when you are practically mass producing these things the lighter works much better.

light it on fire.

seal and wax
And then press…

wait now, patience
And then address it to whomever you are inviting to dinner.
